Moulage is a technique used in fashion design and pattern-making to craft a three-dimensional replica of the body's form. This process involves draping fabric directly onto a dress form or live model, replicating the body's curves, lines, and natural folds. It allows designers to perceive how the fabric naturally falls and shapes itself around the body, and enables real-time adjustments for an accurate fit. This technique is instrumental in understanding fabric-body interaction, particularly during movement. Highly valued in the fashion industry, moulage is crucial for developing intricate, well-structured garments, especially high-end couture pieces that necessitate precise tailoring and customized fits.
In 2019, as a student, I had the opportunity to attend a moulage course in Milan, Italy. There I learned the art of creating custom-fitted garments. I honed my fashion design skills, gaining valuable insights and igniting a passion for the craft. This transformative experience continues to shape my career in the world of fashion.
